Roger Marriott, 82, former president and chairman of the board of Barnes Drill Co., died Saturday in Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. Born in Oak Park, Mr. Marriott attended the University of Illinois before moving to Rockford to work for Barnes Drill, where he put in nearly 40 years before retiring in 1979. Mr. Marriott divided his time between a residence in Rockford and Madeira Beach, Fla., and was affiliated with a number of organizations in both cities. Mr. Marriott once received praise from former Congressman John Anderson for his work on a flood-control project on the east side of Rockford. And a Rockford Museum board member once referred to him as the “Father of the Industrial Museum” in that city. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; a son, Robert; a daughter, Barbara; a sister; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Services will be private.
