New kindergarten and science curricula under consideration by the Barrington Unit 220 School District were put on display this week at the Barrington Area Public Library.
School Board member Tom Tonniges, chairman of the district’s curriculum committee, said the group hopes to get feedback from parents before it meets again next month and recommends the curricula to the school board.
Both the kindergarten and science curricula were altered to comply with state educational goals, said Marie Plozay, director of curriculum for the district.
The new kindergarten linguistic exercises are designed to help children understand how words are put together, said Deborah Cross, principal of North Barrington Elementary School.
The district’s elementary schools use phonics as one of many methods of teaching students to read, she said.
“We covered all of the state goals and all of the learner outcomes,” she added.
