William “Bill” T. Ryan, 72, a retired Chicago police detective, teacher, and founder chief executive of an educational video company, died Wednesday in Resurrection Medical Center. A native of Chicago, he was a resident of the Edison Park neighborhood and Sarasota, Fla., where he resided for the last 10 years. He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1954 and retired in 1973 as a detective. In 1967, while still on the police force, he founded Clearvue Inc., which makes educational audio and visual materials for schools. He joined the Navy in 1943. Survivors include his wife, Beverly; two sons, William and James; and two daughters, Kathleen and Mary Ellen Ryan. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Juliana Catholic Church, 7142 N. Osceola Ave., Chicago.
