These designs, unveiled at the International Home Furnishings Market last week, won with simply elegant design and sophistication.
– Fashion designer Bill Blass brought more than his name to Pennsylvania House, which formally introduced the Bill Blass Collection. Blass added stylish details to his slim, leather-upholstered Dorchester chair with animal print back (about $700 for the side chair; $900, armchair).
– At Bexley Heath, the home office gets class and sass with this addition from The Widdicomb Collection based on the original 1950s designs by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings. This bleached walnut desk (about $4,000) has a clean, sophisticated curve that fits in the corner of a contemporary bedroom library or home office. (The accompanying Sabre chair with leather lattice seat will sell for $2,000.)
– Bernhardt Furniture takes on 1920s Paris in mood and style with its Paris Collection. Its 1930s style vanity ($4,200), mirror ($1,050) and bench ($450) in cherry recall the romance of the boudoir.
– Get the skinny on contemporary-styled recliners at Thayer Coggin Inc. Recline in streamline, contemporary comfort in Marcel Beck’s black leather recliner ($2,700) in the Design Preference line.
– Scandinavian architect Finn Juhl’s Chieftain armchair ($3,432) at Baker Furniture Co. has a floating leather seat that rests on crossbars and a turned, carved walnut frame that supports the shaped back and floating arm-pads and seat.
