A Schaumburg village committee Thursday night recommended revisions to a development plan for land in the commercial heart of the village to make possible hotels, restaurants and a conference center on the site.

The revisions affect 35 acres on the northeast corner of Meacham Road and McConnor Parkway. A plan by Chicago-based Fifield Realty Corp. called for only office buildings on the site.

The developers also plan to reduce the height of future office buildings in the complex from 12 stories to seven stories. The hotels in the proposed complex would be no taller than three stories.

Fifield officials told the village’s Planning, Building and Development Committee they are adapting to market trends for suburban commercial property. Among other things, smaller, higher-quality office buildings are in demand.

“We’re not looking for any grandiose plans,” said Richard Blum, vice president of Fifield. “We want to create an environment that’s user friendly.”

The proposed amendments will come before the Village Board Tuesday night at a public hearing.
