Bernice Stygar, 79, a bookkeeper for the Cook County recorder of deeds’ office, died in her Chicago home Friday, a day before she had planned to retire. Mrs. Stygar worked as a bookkeeper for the county for 14 years. Before then, she worked as a bookkeeper for the John M. Smyth furniture company. She also worked as file clerk for the North American Life Insurance Co. and once held a part-time job selling candy at a Fannie May shop in the Loop. Survivors include a son, Richard; a daughter, Elaine Yanos; a brother; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Wolniak Funeral Home, 5700 S. Pulaski Rd., Chicago. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Turibius Catholic Church, 5646 S. Karlov Ave., Chicago.
