The Palatine Township High School District 211 board has unanimously approved a 1997 tax levy totaling $109,223,186, excluding the bond and interest fund.

The levy equates to a 4.5 percent increase over the 1996 tax levy, said Michael Hyde, associate superintendent.

The proposed total levy amount is projected to produce a tax rate of $2.59 per $100 of equalized assessed valuation, which is a 2.8 percent increase over the current rate of $2.52.

The owner of a $160,000 home will see an estimated $27 yearly increase in the property taxes paid to District 211. The projected increase for a $260,000 home is $45.

The bond and interest levy amount will decrease by $553,415 or 4.4 percent from the 1996 levy. This fund is used to pay principal and interest on outstanding bonds.
