THE BE-BOP REVOLUTION of the 1940s was certainly a bold and brassy affair, and the musician who epitomized it was an extravagantly gifted brass virtuoso–trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. So it’s fitting that the Chicago Jazz and Heritage Program should be presenting a free concert titled Be-Bop Brass on Sunday at the South Shore Cultural Center. Featured brassmen will include trumpeters Art Hoyle, Sonny Turner, Bobby Lewis, Kenny Anderson and Orbert Davis, and trombonists John Watson, Steve Galloway and Steve Berry. This will be both a performance and an “informance”; the music will be interspersed with a history of be-bop in Chicago and personal testimony from each artist. The concert is at 3 p.m. at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive; call 312-747-1430.
