The board of North Palos District 117 this week tentatively approved a $15 million levy that would be 6.9 percent higher than last year’s revenue request from property taxpayers.
The levy for the general fund, the largest fund in the school’s budget, is up by 13.2 percent from last year, said Judi Martschinke, assistant superintendent.
The levy was estimated to capture taxes from the growth in the district’s equalized assessed valuation created by construction within the district that covers Palos Hills, Hickory Hills and Bridgeview, she said. The state’s tax cap will restrict the levy applied to current homeowners and businesses to an increase of 3.3 percent, the same rate as the consumer price index.
The school board will take a final vote on the levy Dec. 16.
