On our way to a convention a few Fridays ago, my 2 1/2-year-old son, Kirby, got his foot caught in an escalator. This occurred at the Rosemont/River Road CTA Station. After seeking medical treatment for him, we realized we had not thanked the many people who had stopped to help us.
It seemed everyone in the CTA station was looking for the emergency stop button. Several men tried to free Kirby’s foot and helped cut off his shoe trying to get him loose. The Rosemont Police, Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded quickly and were able to free him. They rushed him to Resurrection Medical Center, where he received excellent care.
To all of these people, we want to say thank you very much. I cannot imagine what we would have done without your help. We also wanted to let you know that, miraculously, Kirby is now OK.
