Finally, a strong editorial asking for the closing of the School of the Americas (Nov. 10)!
I’m sure many readers had never heard of the outrageous actions by many of the school’s graduates. These are some of the most notorious human-rights violators in Latin America. Now we need to encourage other U.S. senators to pass Senate Bill 980 sponsored by Richard Durbin (D-Ill.); it would close this school once and for all. Rep. John Porter (R-Ill.) already supports the House Bill 611, but we need to encourage all of Congress to pass these bills right away.
It has been years now since the killings of the six Jesuit priests and their household, plus thousands of others, just as your editorial stated. It’s time to stop this outrage.
