It is one thing to read about murder in your local newspaper, but it is quite another when it happens in your own back yard–as per your recent article about the murder in Hanover Park (“Bond denied for man in slaying of roommate,” Metro, Nov. 10). I understand that this and most murders are crimes of passion and are committed by and against people who intimately know each other.
For me, this episode is yet another to go along with recent “within the family” murders in our neighboring Bartlett and Addison. It seems to me that as our moral standards decline, as the divorce rate continues to climb to unparalleled heights and as children try to survive in the midst of broken families, our country is struggling to survive from within its own family structure, rather than from some external demon.
These seem to be the acts of a culture that has lost its moral guidance and spiritual integrity.
