Although it is not uncommon to hear some residents gripe about the taxes they must pay on their $400,000 homes, members of the village’s Police Department know not everyone in Tinley Park maintains such a lifestyle.
It is those less fortunate whom the part-time reserve police officers have set out to help with their Wish program, in which all donations–cash or goods–will go to village residents.
Officer Dennis Mahoney said the group has contacted 20 churches in hopes of being put in contact with potential recipients. Already selected is a 6-year-old girl with terminal cancer, he said.
“Some people are in just as worse shape as in the poorer suburbs,” Police Chief Michael O’Connell said.
The officers will be contacting businesses for donations, but anyone is welcome to contribute.
