The phrase “sci-fi art” might conjure up images of the “Star Trek” episode that featured Mr. Spock getting down on his Vulcan harp, but a whole universe of really cool spaced-out creations will be unveiled Friday night at Steppenwolf Theatre Company. “Spaced Out: A Voyage Into Sci-Fi Art” features works by such noted artists and illustrators as King VelVeeda, Shane Swank and Alex Wald (whose scary spaceman is pictured at right); the exhibit opens at the Steppenwolf’s second-floor gallery, 1650 N. Halsted St., from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The reception is free, and the works will be on display through Jan. 24, with free viewing hours from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Co-sponsored by the theater and Anatomically Correct Gallery, “Spaced Out” is a complement to the Steppenwolf’s production of “Space.” Call Anatomically Correct at 312-514-1802.
