Rodney Equi, a six-year veteran of the DuPage judiciary, has been appointed a full circuit judge by the Illinois Supreme Court.

Equi, 49, of Wheaton was sworn in this week as the county’s 15th full circuit judge.

His appointment comes the week before several associate judges were considering filing petitions next week to run for the vacant full circuit seat created last month by the Illinois General Assembly.

“I’m elated and proud for the appointment and I do plan on being a candidate for the full six-year term next year,” Equi said Thursday.

Equi, a graduate of Loyola Academy, DePaul University and Lewis University Law School, was appointed an associate judge in 1992.

His private practice and his judicial career have been spent in civil law. He presides in the law division of DuPage County Circuit Court and said he anticipates continuing in the civil section of the courthouse.

Equi, who is married and has two daughters, is a cousin of retired DuPage Judge Philip Equi.

“A full circuit judge has the chance to have a greater impact on policy to improve the court system, to make it more user-friendly and to take advantage of technological advances,” Equi said.
