Robert G. Nelson, 74, co-owner of a general contracting company and a former longtime Palos Park resident, died Tuesday in his home in Winchester, Ky. In the early 1970s, Mr. Nelson and his two brothers took over their father’s Calumet City business. The general contracting company was called G.O. Nelson & Sons Inc. and was founded in 1923, the same year Nelson was born in Chicago. Mr. Nelson began working there as a brick layer after returning from Europe, where he flew bombers for the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Brick Layers Union Local No. 21 and a member of the Elks Lodge of Rice Lake, Wis. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Nelson; a daughter, Candace Bowe; two sons, Eric and Kevin; three grandchildren; a sister; and two brothers. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church, 12312 88th Ave., Palos Park.
