Despite setting a team record with 54 shots, the Wolves had use a shootout Sunday to beat the Orlando Solar Bears 3-2 before 10,322 at the Rosemont Horizon.
Orlando goaltender David Littman allowed only two goals in a barrage of 51 Chicago shots before surrendering three goals to Steve Martins, Alexander Semak and Ravil Gusmanov in the shootout.
Grigori Panteleyev was the lone Solar Bear to beat Wolves goaltender Wendell Young in the extra period. Young, who collected his 10th straight victory in net, has 17 wins to lead the International Hockey League.
“Wendell has been tremendous all year,” Wolves coach John Anderson said. “I think he had one iffy game in Las Vegas and that’s been it.”
Young, who is 13-0-1 in his last 14 games, faced only 24 shots in the game before heading to the shootout.
“You get a little worried when you haven’t had that much work,” Young said. “Then you’ve got to look at it the other way–I was fresh I guess. But I’ve got to give Littman a lot of accolades for the way he played.”
