He may be less well-known to the public at large than such fellow New Trier High School graduates as Charlton Heston, Ann-Margret and Rock Hudson, but in his own field, Warren MacKenzie, Class of 1941, is world famous. Commonly regarded as America’s greatest living functional potter, MacKenzie studied under English master Bernard Leach and has himself been a figure of vast influence, both as a teacher and as a creator of objects that unite use and beauty. Today through Jan. 30, 75 MacKenzie pieces from North Shore collections will be on display at the high school’s Ann Brierly Gallery, 385 Winnetka Ave., Winnetka. Call 847-446-7000.
