Police said they charged a 41-year-old Chicago woman with retail theft, battery and possession of a theft-detection shielding device after she allegedly walked out of Carson Pirie Scott on Friday with more than $1,200 worth of clothing. Police said a guard tried to stop Vanessa Hoskins, of 10835 S. Eberhart Ave., after he allegedly saw her put the clothing into shopping bags. Police said Hoskins allegedly fought with the guard before being detained. According to reports, a second suspect fled the area in a car and was not apprehended. Police said the shopping bag was fixed so that the alarm sensors on the merchandise in the bag would not set off the store’s sensor alarms.
