Most wrestlers and coaches seem to favor the new weight-cutting restrictions imposed by the NCAA in the wake of recent deaths by wrestlers trying to make weight, but Minnesota coach J Robinson does not.
“The NCAA says, `We can’t lose weight.’ But on the other hand–and people will not like this–we can put as much fat on football players as possible and shorten their life spans and joints and everything,” Robinson said.
“I mean it’s like, what’s healthy about a 6-foot-3, 320-pound lineman? Nothing,” he said.
The NCAA announced the changes this week in response to the deaths of Jeff Reese of Michigan, Joe LaRosa of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Bill Saylor of Campbell University.
