People living near the Des Plaines River and its tributaries and other areas of flood hazard may want to attend a public meeting regarding the National Flood Insurance Program. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has recently completed a new, countywide flood insurance study that spells out areas of Cook County subject to significant flood hazards.

This information will be used by banks and insurance agents to determine where flood insurance is required and how much it will cost. Communities will use the information to regulate new construction in flood hazard areas.
