Saluting the 25th anniversary of the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League will sponsor activities around the country and release a book that features stories of women who have chosen abortion.
On Jan. 20 the organization will sponsor Speak Out, a forum on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court building, to allow women to share publicly their private experiences. Other Speak Outs are planned for Jan. 22 in Boston, Denver, Dayton, Philadelphia, St. Louis and St. Paul. On the same day, a luncheon is planned in Washington that features Vice President Al Gore as a guest. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton is the luncheon’s honorary chair but is not expected to attend.
“Our goal is to give voice to women’s stories and to highlight the impact that the right to choose has had on women’s health and women’s lives,” says Belle Taylor-McGhee, NARAL spokeswoman.
Copies of the book, “Choices: Women Speak Out About Abortion” ($14.95) are available by calling 202-973-3000.
