With a new Schaumburg Township District Library set to open later this year, library board members are pondering the next chapter for their current building.

Among the options being considered are hiring a real estate agent to sell the property, or trying to sell it themselves.

On Monday night, the board heard a third possibility: Selling the building at auction.

Sherman Good & Co., a Chicago real estate auction firm, said the building, which is off Roselle Road on Library Lane, might be of interest to a doctors group or law firm.

Sheldon Good representatives said they would be able to draw a large number of potential buyers to an auction.

The library has been appraised at $5.8 million. The new library is being built at Schaumburg and Roselle Roads at a cost of $23.5 million and is expected to open in September.

Although library board members expressed interest in the auction idea, they said it could be several months before they make a decision on how they will dispose of their old building.
