A federal judge in Peoria rejected Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America’s attempt to force the federal government to prove its sexual harassment charges on a case-by-case basis. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission wants to prove that Mitsubishi, an auto manufacturer in Normal, Ill., is liable for perpetuating an environment hostile to women. U.S. District Judge Joe Billy McDade ruled that the EEOC can try to prove its hostile environment claims. If it succeeds, liability would then be considered. Walter B. Connolly Jr., Mitsubishi’s lawyer, said the judge’s ruling would be appealed.
