H. Myles Gordon, 77, was a real estate developer whose progressive commercial and residential projects have become a part of Arlington Heights’ growth history. A 26-year resident of Winnetka, Mr. Gordon died Tuesday in Highland Park Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Chicago, Mr. Gordon teamed with Raymond Schiff Realtors of Chicago in 1952, a step that led to more than 40 years in the real estate business. Mr. Gordon bought real estate in Arlington Heights in anticipation of the village’s growth.
“He will be remembered as one of the architects of the rapid growth of Arlington Heights,” said Mayor Arlene Mulder. “He was one of the movers and shakers.”
His projects in Arlington Heights included the three-building complex known as the Plaza on Wilke Road; two large office structures on Eastman Street in the center of town; and the Salem Lane and Scarsdale apartment complexes.
He was known for his charity, and he actively supported Clearbrook Center, which serves the mentally disabled, and Harper Community College. His many memberships included the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce.
“He was a very driven person and he liked what he did,” said his wife, Gladys Gordon.
He is also survived by a son, Mark. Services were Thursday.
