The Roman Catholic Church has a problem communicating with young people and needs to understand their concerns, including sex, if it is to attract candidates into holy orders, a Vatican document said Tuesday. In its publication entitled “New Vocations for a New Europe,” the Vatican said a new evangelism was needed on the eve of the new millennium to guide young people toward vocational service in the Catholic Church. The 112-page report was compiled following a congress last May on service in the church in Europe, which found that materialism, broken homes and the demands of celibacy made young people reluctant to devote their lives to religious orders.
