I agree with the editorial titled “A pair of license plates, please” (Feb. 18). As a local community college commuter, I drive to school every day and am amazed at the number of violations and accidents that I see. The police need all of the tools available to them to apprehend drivers who commit serious violations.

The removal of the front license plate would not allow the police to be as effective as they are and would reduce the number of eyewitnesses to an accident. This would result in fewer arrests and allow these drivers to stay on the road and commit future serious offenses.

With the number of car-phone users increasing, and women applying their makeup (and men shaving) while driving, maybe we should put license plates on the sides of the car as well. These people are as much a hazard as drunk drivers. The state should not remove the front license plates to realize a mere 80 cents per plate in savings.
