The Inverness Village Board has voted unanimously to table until Sept. 8 a discussion on annexing 5 acres along Carlisle Drive, because the property is being considered for purchase by the Cook County Forest Preserve District.

Evan Harris, an Inverness resident who wants to develop the property north of the village, said he wanted the board to act quickly on the annexation rather than wait the six months recommended by the village Plan Commission.

Village Administrator Curt Carver told the board Tuesday night he believed it should follow the Plan Commission’s recommendation and not risk artificially inflating the value of the land.

Village Atty. Jim Bateman agreed, saying, “I would feel differently if this were in the corporate limits of Inverness.

“Annexation is a privilege, not a right. The village can take as long as it wants to consider this.”

In other action, the board received a $1,200 check from Waste Management Inc. for its Good Samaritan Fund, which provides money to charities.
