The Crystal Lake Plan Commission confronted the problem of clogged roads Wednesday night, focusing on procedures for planning roadways as it reviewed the city’s nine-year-old comprehensive plan.
Clyde Wakefield, director of public utilities for the city, said Crystal Lake currently has no master plan for future roadways. As it stands now, capacity at certain intersections is the biggest problem in Crystal Lake, Wakefield said.
Several projects are under way at key intersections to alleviate the congestion by expanding lanes and constructing designated turn lanes. Among the projects are those at Main Street and U.S. Highway 14 and at Illinois Highway 176 and Terra Cotta Road.
