Many factors contribute to youth violence and it is every caring person’s duty to do whatever they can to help put a stop to it.
One of the main influences on children and teenagers is what they watch on television. A lot of it is televised garbage, like The Jerry Springer Show, whose sole purpose is to promote and glamorize violence and depravity. This slugfest is worth millions of dollars to NBC and, obviously, attracts many viewers.
Use the time you would waste watching Jerry Springer to talk to your children, read with them or have them read to you, sing with them–just make it something positive and worthwhile.
One of the reasons so many people enjoyed the movie Titanic was because we long for the days when ordinary people were heroes, and decency, honor and the preservation of human life meant something.
Turn off Channel 5 until the executives controlling NBC understand that our children’s mental and physical well being are more important than whatever cheap thrills come from watching pathetic wretches pummel and swear at each other.
