Paul Salopek’s Pulitzer Prize for explanatory journalism was underscored by Tribune Editor Howard Tyner, who said that Salopek’s work illustrates the type of journalism that will continue to make newspapers relevant in a world of competing information providers.

In the Information Age, and with the rush to get stories on televison news programs, the art of tackling a complex subject and probing it in depth has been lost on the electronic media, but not so on newspapers.

Newspapers will provide the most comprehensive reports for the serious-minded person seeking more than sound-bite news.

Congratulations to Paul Salopek and the Chicago Tribune.
