An early-morning sweep conducted recently by Park City police to round up residents with outstanding warrants has cleaned the city’s slate of known suspects.
Starting with a list of 13 people with warrants known to have lived in Park City, police knocking on doors at 4 a.m. determined that one had moved out of the city and seven had moved out of the state or had died, city officials said.
The remaining five were taken into custody.
“As far as we know, everybody around here who was wanted on a warrant is in jail, out of the area or dead, any one of which is OK by me,” Park City Mayor Robert Allen said after city officials were briefed by police at Thursday’s City Council meeting.
The sweep was conducted a recent weekend as part of an effort to crack down on crime in the wake of a March shooting incident that left a 19-year-old Waukegan man dead in Park City’s first homicide in 19 years.
