The Fox Waterway Agency’s board of directors voted Thursday night to appoint a fishing club based in the Chain o’ Lakes area as the agency’s official Waterway Water Watch.
Members of South of the Border Muskies Inc. got the job through mutual agreement with the agency, officials said.
The 267 members of South of the Border Muskies will help out by towing floating debris to shore, reporting broken or misplaced buoys and advising agency staff of hazards to navigation.
“These guys are out there during all types of weather, and they know the waterway,” said William Hauck, the agency director in charge of the program.
The agency also approved a $23,100 contract with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department to enforce agency ordinances on its portion of the Chain.
