Sid Mott, 68, a sales and packaging consultant and resident of Skokie, died Sunday in Hospice of North Shore at Evanston Hospital of leukemia. Mr. Mott, who changed his name from Sidney Mottlowitz, became president of the Society of Packaging and Handling Engineers, although he did not have a college degree. He also became a board member of the Chicago Area Technical Society. “He was a self-made man,” said his son Allen Mott. “He rose through the ranks through hard work and dedication.” Mr. Mott worked for years as a salesman and consultant with Schwarz Paper Co. He taught packaging and handling courses for 10 years at Triton College. He also worked as a consultant to the U.S. Postal Service. A Marine veteran, Mr. Mott served as a radio operator in Japan during the early 1950s. He was a member of VFW Post No. 3854 and American Legion Post No. 320. Othe survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a son, Michael; and a sister, Norma Jerome. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Weinstein Family Services Wilmette Chapel, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette.
