Michael J. Gillespie, 73, a 37-year resident of Mt. Prospect, died Monday in his home. Mr. Gillespie retired in 1987 after 37 years at Mid States Elevator Co., Itasca, where he built and repaired elevators. Mr. Gillespie was a Chicago native and World War II Army veteran who served in France. “He was a great dad,” said his daughter Peggy Ayello. “He had a great sense of humor.” Other survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Timothy and Michael; another daughter, Beth Swift; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Emily Catholic Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect.
