Park Ridge-Niles District 64 has whittled the list of candidates for principal at Roosevelt Elementary to five from more than 100, and officials plan to do site visits with the two top candidates by next week.
The Park Ridge school’s current principal, Sally Pryor, will take over as the district’s instruction director after Jerry Hawver steps down from that post at the end of the school year.
Hawver announced in March that he was resigning to pursue teaching jobs in higher education.
District officials would not identify any of the five finalists, all of whom are current principals at schools in the Chicagoland area and have at least five years administrative experience.
Site visits, which will be done by Pryor and Supt. Fred Schroeder, should be wrapped up by the end of next week, with a final recommendation to the district board by May 26.
The search drew 104 applicants from across the country.
Of the remaining 48 candidates, two dropped out and just 13 were recommended for further consideration by a group of teachers, administrators and parents, who then cut the list to the final five.
Starting pay likely will be a minimum of $75,000.
