The Lake Zurich Village Board voted 5-1 in favor of the final site plans Monday night for the Beverly Inn, ending a lengthy debate on whether to accept the 68-room hotel and 30-seat restaurant.
Trustee Julie Gyarmaty was the lone dissenter in the final vote. “Ultimately, we allowed a rather large building on that piece of property,” Gyarmaty said.
Gyarmaty said she didn’t like amending the zoning code and thought the developers should have tried harder to reduce the size of the building.
Developer Jim Kelsey said he was pleased to have the long debate on the project completed and hopes to have the hotel in operation by late this year or early next year.
The project will be built on the current site of the Taylor Street Cafe at U.S. Highway 12 and North Old Rand Road. The cafe will be relocated to the north end of Dominick’s.
