There is still a mystery surrounding the approval by the president allowing the transfer of satellite technology information to China.
According to Linda Chavez’s May 20 Op-Ed column titled “Clinton’s struggle with morality,” President Clinton said, “All the foreign-policy decisions we made were based on what we believed–I and the rest of my administration–were in the best interests of the American people.”
It would be interesting indeed if the president would tell the American people his reasons for believing that such transfers are in their best interests. They must be excellent reasons, considering that he overruled the Justice Department, the State Department, the Defense Department, the CIA and the National Security Agency. Their collective ideas of what is “in the interests of the American people” must be very flawed indeed. And besides that, I always thought that they were part of his administration!
