The City Council Finance Committee has recommended 3.5 percent raises for 118 full-time workers and 77 part-time employees who are not union members.

Under a proposal negotiated with the workers, they would receive the raises effective last January.

In addition, they would agree to pay 1.5 percent of their salaries toward health insurance premiums, an increase of a half percent.

Salary increases for the 118 full-time workers are expected to cost the city about $185,634, personnel director Louise Sheridan said.

The increased cost for the part-time workers is tough to calculate, she added, because the city uses many of those workers on an as-needed basis.
