The Lake County coroner’s office was recently recognized by the Regional Organ Bank of Illinois for its efforts on behalf of tissue donation and transplantation.
“The Lake County coroner’s office is honored to be recognized for its work in helping to eliminate the critical shortage of donated tissues,” said Lake County Coroner Barbara Richardson.
“We are committed to continuing to work closely with ROBI in an effort to shorten the waiting list for transplantation,” she said.
According to ROBI, which works with nearly 200 hospitals throughout its service area, more than 3,000 Illinois and northwest Indiana residents are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
ROBI, a not-for-profit agency based in Chicago, is one of the largest organ procurement organizations in the United States. It is charged with procuring and distributing organs and tissues in accordance with federal guidelines.
