I am firmly against the anti-flag burning bill because it represents a restriction on freedom of speech. Actual freedom of speech should always be more important than any specific symbol of freedom.

If the GOP sponsors of the bill really want to show their loyalty to America, then they would sponsor a tax on American flags made in other countries. I think it’s ridiculous that the majority of American flags are made in Asia and that other countries profit from the patriotism of U.S. citizens.

Of course, Republicans and most Democrats would never support such a measure because they would never put the needs of American workers before those of their deep-pocketed, multinational corporate contributors.
