Police in Florida think they’ve caught a thief nicknamed Spiderman for scaling high-rise luxury buildings and taking millions of dollars in jewels and other items, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.
Derrick G. James, an ex-paratrooper, is suspected of being the agile burglar and could be charged with more than 100 burglaries involving $6 million worth of goods, the newspaper quoted a police source as saying.
State and local officials are close to filing charges against James, 33, who was being held on unrelated traffic and probation violation charges, the paper said.
Spiderman worked in six counties, hitting high-rises from Miami-Dade to Brevard, authorities said.
To get inside, the thief climbed from balcony to balcony, scaling as high as the 30th floor, authorities said.
