A sidewalk construction project that has been under way for more than 20 years in Arlington Heights should be completed later this summer.

The village Board of Local Improvements recently approved Des Plaines-based A-Lamp Concrete as the lowest bidder to complete the project.

The last sidewalks will be constructed at a cost of $141,718.

Among the thoroughfares that will get sidewalks include parts of Rand Road, Thomas Street, Oakton Street and Palatine Road.

David Landeweer, a member of the Board of Local Improvements, said the sidewalk construction would increase safety for pedestrians.

The village Department of Engineering must now review the contract with A-Lamp.

Construction of the sidewalks could begin in the next few weeks.
