The story “Baby kicking after open-womb surgery” (News, July 4), regarding the operation to repair spina bifida damage at an earlier stage in pregnancy than has previously been done–23 weeks–gave as an important reason that a woman who finds out her fetus has spina bifida and wants an abortion typically must decide by 24 weeks (this gives parents a chance to see if the surgery can work).
