Harry Silverstone, 89, a resident of Buffalo Grove, died Wednesday in the Claremont Nursing Center in Buffalo Grove. Mr. Silverstone retired in 1975 as comptroller for the former Galler Wholesale Drug Co., Chicago, after more than 40 years of service. Mr. Silverstone received a degree in accounting and finance from Northwestern University in 1934. He was a former secretary of the Illinois Travelers Pharmaceutical Association, an organization of pharmaceutical sales representatives, and its man of the year in 1963. As secretary of the organization, he helped pharmacists obtain loans to open pharmacies. “He helped hundreds of pharmacists start in business,” said his son Robert. “He was a very honest, hard-working man. He was on the board of directors at the Loop Synagogue (in Chicago). That meant a lot to him.” Other survivors include his wife, Jeanne; another son, Jeffrey; a sister, Bessie Hammer; and four grandchildren. Services were held Friday.
