At the New Amsterdam Theater near Times Square, not only does the show (“The Lion King”) go on, but so do six South Africans in the cast. The South Africans received a waiver from Actors’ Equity to appear in the cast when the show opened last November. But their waiver was to expire on June 30.

Chanting and singing, the performers speak several African dialects, some difficult to learn; and they are offering master classes to find performers who could play their roles in the future.
