Laura Elizabeth Vaos, 54, of Prairie Grove, died Saturday in her home after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Vaos was an elementary school teacher at St. Joseph’s School in Round Lake for about 15 years because she wanted to give something back in return for the Catholic education she herself had received, her husband, Tony, said. “She was very dedicated,” he said. “I remember she would sometimes spend four, five hours a night grading papers but she really went through every one of them. She said `if they can do it, I can correct it.’ ” Mrs. Vaos was born in Pensacola, Fla. For the last 30 years she lived in the northwest suburbs of Kildeer, Barrington Hills, Crystal Lake and, most recently, Prairie Grove. “She was a great mother and a great wife,” her husband said. Other survivors include a son, Kristopher ; her mother, Grace Manley; and two sisters, Mary Ann McCabe and Caroline Nowatka. Visitation was held Sunday. Services will begin at 9:15 a.m. Monday in Flagg Funeral Home, 2 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake, moving to Windridge Cemetery Chapel, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Rd., Cary.
