A 90-year-old woman was nearly cheated out of $50 by a man who tried to pull a repair scam on her Monday at her home in the 500 block of Miller Avenue, police said. The suspect told the woman that her son hired him to water seal her home. He first asked for $50. When she said she did not have it, he asked for $40 and then $20. She told him she could give him a check, but he refused. The suspect fled and no arrests have been made. The woman, who does not have a son, called her grandson who said he did not hire anyone either.
