A Round Lake Park man was being held in lieu of $300,000 bail at Lake County Jail Thursday for allegedly barricading himself and his two young children in his home for three hours. Nobody was injured in the incident.
Police said Michael Gill, 32, of 364 N. Windridge Drive, was armed with a shotgun as he held police at bay from 6:40 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. Wednesday. While in the house, his two children, ages 5 and 3, were watching television, police said. Police did not say what prompted the incident.
Several homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution, police said. After several failed attempts, a state trooper made phone contact with Gill, who released the children and surrendered, police said. Two handguns, two shotguns and a rifle were recovered from the home, police said.
Gill was charged with aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer, two counts of endangering the life of a child, and two counts of aggravated unlawful restraint.
