Chicago is known world wide for skyscrapers like Sears Tower and the John Hancock Center, but the role that structural engineers have played in the creation of those buildings is often overlooked.

Not anymore. Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., plans a fall lecture series that promises to cover just about every aspect of structural engineering in Chicago.

Titled “Engineering in the City of the Century: A Celebration of Structural Engineering Achievements in 20th Century Chicago,” the 12-week series starts on Sept. 1 with a lecture by C. William Brubaker of Perkins & Will on the evolution of the skyscraper in Chicago.

Each lecture begins at 4:30 p.m. EST, and will be held at Purdue’s Stanley Coulter Hall. Call 765-494-5904 for lecture information and 765-494-4636 for travel information.
